Chemususu Dam – Baringo County
The Chemususu dam project is located on the Chemususu river which is a tributary of Tigiri river some 17kms to the west of Eldama Ravine town in Koibatek District. The dam is 45m high dam with a storage capacity of 12Mm3 of water capable of yielding 35,000m3/day of water to supply Eldama Ravine Township and its environs.
Project benefits
The project benefits include:
- Improved the living standards of the people of Chemususu, Eldama Ravine Town and its environs including parts of Koibatek, Baringo, Londiani and Nakuru Districts due to improved water access to approximately 600,000 people;
- Enhancement of Human resource capacity building More reliable supply of water through adequate storage at the dam;
- Reduced outbreak of water borne diseases;
- Increased potential for industrial and commercial development.
- Attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by increasing water supply coverage from 28% to 100%.
- Achievement of Vision 2030 goal on medium/ large dams to achieve per capita storage of 16m3 .
