World Water Day is an annual UN observance day that highlights the importance of freshwater. The day was first observed in 1993 and is used to advocate for the sustainable management and development of freshwater resources.
NWHSA led by Chairman Maj. Gen, (Rtd) Andrew Ikenye and CEO CS Sharon Obonyo, joined the world in marking the 30th Edition of World Water Day in Kitui County at Maliku Primary School. The UN theme ‘Underground Water, Making The InvisibleVisible’and our national slogan “Tuhifadhi maji ya rdhini kwa vizazi vijavyo”.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor Kitui and the Kitui Rural Member of Parliament lauded the Ministry for holding the event in Maliku. They both repeated that Kitui is a water scarce area with the of at least 85% population consuming dirty water.
As part of the Authority’s participation in this event, we donated 2 10lt tanks to promote roof water harvesting and 5 handwashing tanks for sanitation for the duration of the event and later to be donated to Maliku Primary School. All these were handed over to Mrs. Ben the Head teacher of the school.
