Naku’Etum Peace Dam
The Naku’Etum Peace Dam is a critical water infrastructure and cross-border peacebuilding project located in Naku’etum Village, Turkana County, Kenya. Designed to emulate successful peace-building reservoirs like Uganda’s Kobebe Dam, it serves as a powerful symbol of reconciliation, conflict resolution, and shared resources between neighboring pastoralist communities.
Located in Urum Location near the Ugandan border, this 750,000-cubic-meter reservoir was constructed under a presidential directive. It provides water for up to 600,000 people and 200,000 livestock, successfully ending historical water conflicts between the Turkana and Uganda’s Karamoja communities.
